RIKEN Center for Computational Science (R-CCS) is operating the world's leading K computer, and also has a strong Research Division. R-CCS takes the lead in advancing the computational science and aims to be an international center of excellence for computational science in collaboration with a wide range of research organizations. R-CCS integrates the computer science and computational science to conduct most advanced research and development of a wide range of applied scientific computation, as well as of high-performance computing technologies including fundamental researches for 10 to 20-year future.
Our research team has been studying promising computer architectures and systems towards the Post-Moor Era, programming techniques, algorithms and applications of these techniques to AI techniques (Machine learning, deep learning and others).

Research regarding development of architecture evaluation environment and exploration of architecture design space as a part of research contracted with New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).
The year of 2028 is projected as a beginning of Post-Moore Era. It is expected that a wide range of applications will be boosted by a factor of 100 with respect to computational performance. However, to find the best architecture for reaching the 100x computational performance, co-designing from hardware devices, system software, programming models to algorithms is necessary. We will tackle this research challenge with simulators and/or performance modeling, then we explore the design space of the hardware architectures under various system architectures, various system parameters and others. Specifically, our research team will conduct (1) selection and analysis of target applications; (2) building simulators and/or performance models. As necessary, tight collaborations with other members of our team, other teams in R-CCS, other centers in RIKEN, and other collaborative partners in Japan and overseas will be encouraged.
