We are soliciting applications for an Engineer who will be involved in the research objectives described in mid-and long-term plan of JAMSTEC, particularly, the item of "Challenging and creative research and development based on flexible and independent mind and organization".
(1) Understanding environmental conditions and functions of the ocean during the origin and evolution of life on Earth,
(2) Exploration, understanding and application of 'dark matter living forms and functions' in deep and dark regions of the Earth,
(3) Physical and chemical processes of water-rock reactions in deep and dynamic zones at plate boundaries and crusts,
(4) Other important research objectives described in mid-and long-term plan of JAMSTEC.
The successful applicant will be involved in these research themes by contributing analytical and experimental techniques and fieldwork experiences such as:
(1) Techniques for general, fine and isotopic chemical analyses of environmental and experimental samples,
(2) Technique for meta-omics analyses of environmental and experimental samples,
(3) Other techniques as required.

Engineer: To contribute to the Agency, an Engineer is expected to manage, improve and advance the infrastructure. Establishment of technology based on a background of general technical knowledge such as information system, improvement of technical management functions is also inclusive.
*There may be a change in affiliation in the case of reorganization of the Agency.

November 1, 2019 to March 31, 2022
*One contract period is a maximum of three fiscal years. The contract period will be renewed but the total contract period is maximum five fiscal years (until March 31, 2024).
*Appointment date is negotiable.
Annual salary (paid in 1/12 equal monthly payments)
*Overtime payment will be added to monthly salary.
*Salary will be competitive in accordance with JAMSTEC bylaws, based on the academic qualifications and demonstrated research skills of the applicant.
*There is no bonus and retirement allowance.
