Recently, natural disasters such as torrential rain, tornadoes, floods, landslides, and coastal disasters frequently occur in Japan. Local governments and governmental agencies require reliable information on natural disasters for disaster response. Based on this background, the National Research Institute for Disaster Resilience conducts a research project “Development of prediction technologies for water-related disasters based on multi sensing", to develop reliable prediction methods for water-related disasters using various sensors including weather radars, slope monitoring sensors, flood sensors, and so on.

In the research project "Development of prediction technologies for water-related disasters based on multi sensing", we will employ a researcher who will study one of the following topics based on observation, data analysis or numerical simulations: heavy rainfall, tornadoes, floods, coastal hazards, and landslides. Especially, a scientist who can conduct field survey when natural disasters occur and can actively provide information to the public is desired. Specifically, the employee work on one of the following topics;
(1) development of prediction method of disasters due to torrential rain or tornadoes,
(2) development of prediction method of disasters due to floods,
(3) development of prediction method of landslides, and
(4) development of prediction method of coastal disasters such us storm surge.

Benefits

Salary: More than 504,700 yen per month.
*To be determined at the time of employment based on internal regulations (annual salary system).
*Including fixed overtime allowance: 15 hours equivalent.
In the case of 504,700 yen per month, the fixed overtime allowance is 60,060 yen
*The overtime allowance beyond 15 hours per month will be paid separately.
Working hours: Flextime
Days off: Every Saturday and Sunday, National holidays, New Year's holidays
Social Insurance: Health insurance, Employees' pension insurance, Employment insurance, and Workers' accident compensation insurance

[Term of Employment]
The successful candidate will be employed from the day of commencing the post to 31 March 2025. The term of employment may be extended each fiscal year, based on budget, needs of work engaged in, and in line with performance. (The contract may be extended following expiry of the term.) *A probationary period of two months.
