●Background and Concept of the School of Global Humanities and Social Sciences (SGHSS)

In order to strengthen its foundations as a general university and meet the strong demand in society for global talent in the humanities and social sciences, Nagasaki University established a new faculty at which education and research in these fields are conducted in April of 2014: the School of Global Humanities and Social Sciences (SGHSS). Aiming to further foster research in these fields, it subsequently established the Graduate School of Global Humanities and Social Sciences (GSGHSS) in April of 2018. The GSGHSS currently offers an MA program, and plans for a PhD program to be launched in April of 2020 have been submitted for approval to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. More information regarding the SGHSS and the GSGHSS can be found online at http://www.hss.nagasaki-u.ac.jp/. Nagasaki University invites applications from scholars who share the aims and vision of the SGHSS and the GSGHSS. Due to an organizational restructuring that came into effect on 1 April 2019, the selected candidate will be employed at the Nagasaki University Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences (Division of Global Humanities and Social Sciences).

●Research Field

They should preferably have produced clear research results with respect to a specific region while endeavoring to work across borders in regard to methods, regions, and languages. The selected candidate will be asked to teach courses mainly in the Social Dynamics Program, but as the domains of inquiry of this program intersect with those of the International Public Policy Program and the Human and Cultural Studies Program, applicants should be able to treat various historical phenomena related to contact and conflict between and the coexistence of multiple social systems, including connections to domains of inquiry such as politics, law, economy, language, philosophy, thought, society, and ethnology.
