    Supramolecular Chemistry Group

The Supramolecular Chemistry group is an interdisciplinary unit based at the Institute for Molecular Science (ICMol) of the Universidad de Valencia (UVEG). ICMol is the sole Spanish research center exclusively focused on the study of molecules and functional molecular materials which has received the Accreditation as a Unit of Excellence “María de Maeztu” (2016-2019), awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitivity within the National Program for Fostering Excellence in Scientific and Technical Research.

The Supramolecular group is integrated by four staff professors, six postdoctoral research associates and five PhD students. The research lines span from biomedical to environmental chemistry with a strong component in translational chemistry.

The Supramolecular Chemistry Group is an interdisciplinary unit focused on the development and the study of complex supramolecular and biological systems. Our group follow a bottom-up approach in which we design novel supramolecular architectures to interrogate biological processes. We apply our expertise in organic and inorganic synthesis to develop supramolecules, mainly metal complexes, which we use to target and study biomolecules. A key research line in the group led by Dr. Gonzalez-Garcia is the development of novel tools to target and visualize non-canonical DNA/RNA structures. Non-canonical nucleic acids are interesting drug targets in cancer, ageing and neurological disorders. Our aim is to (i) prepare a toolbox of fluorescence molecules based on metal complexes, (ii) study the interaction with non-canonical DNA/RNA structures by a range of biophysical techniques and (iii) assay the molecules in cells to understand the mechanism and apply them as G4 sensing probes using microscopy. Thus, we request a researcher with a PhD in Chemistry or Biochemistry and a strong background in synthesis and interested in applied chemistry to biological processes.
