The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) hosts the prestigious ”Green Talents – International Forum for High Potentials in Sustainable Development” to promote the international exchange of innovative green ideas. The award, under the patronage of Minister Professor Johanna Wanka, honours young researchers each year. The winners are recognised for their outstanding achievements in making societies more sustainable. Selected by a high-ranking jury of German experts the award winners are granted unique access to Germany's research elite.

In 2017, the jury has chosen 25 Green Talents from 21 different countries. Among them are two ASEAN researchers - Dr Aretha Aprilia from Indonesia and Dr Gian Powell B Marquez from the Philippines. You can find the winners' profiles here.

The two ASEAN researchers have joined their fellow winners for a two-week Science Forum tour from 16-27 October 2017. This year´s focus is on “Sustainable Production and Consumption” and leads them to different hot-spots of sustainability science related to this theme in the South of Germany. In the second week, the awardees also have the opportunity to meet up with leading German experts to discuss their research and to lay the foundations for future collaborations. The tour will end in Berlin where the Green Talents Award will be presented to the awardees for the ninth time during a festive ceremony on 27 October 2017 in the BMBF.
