Congratulations to the Falling Walls Lab participants in Belo Horizonte and Fortaleza!

Falling Walls Lab in Brazil already has its winners! EURAXESS Brazil is happy to congratulate all the participants from both editions and gladly announces that the EURAXESS Brazil Prize will be awarded to:

  • Micael da Silva, from the Technology Institute of the Federal University of Pará, with his project “Breaking the wall of cements with high environmental impact”, winner of the Fortaleza edition
  • Victor Freitas, from the Federal University of São João del-Rei, with his project “Breaking the Wall of renewable aromatics molecules”, winner from the Belo Horizonte edition

Once in Berlin for the Falling Walls Conference, they will have the opportunity to visit a research institute of their choice in any other EU country to discuss partnership and maybe take the next step of their career.

Pitch your idea and go to the finals in Berlin! And more: EURAXESS Brazil takes you to another EU country to visit a research institute of your choice

The Falling Walls Lab is an international forum for the next generation of outstanding innovators and creative thinkers. Its aim is to promote exceptional ideas and to connect promising scientists and entrepreneurs from all fields on a global level. Participants get the opportunity to present their research work, business model, or initiative to peers, a high-calibre jury made up of experts from academia and business, and the general public - in 3 minutes each.

In Brazil, 2 editions will take place in parallel in Fortaleza (20 September) and in Belo Horizonte (23 September).

Candidates from all areas of knowledge can apply for the edition of their choice in Fortaleza or Belo Horizonte until 31 July 2019. In each location, fifteen to twenty proposals will be selected to be presented personally by their authors in just 3 minutes! The author of the best idea in each one of the 2  Brazilian editions will participate in the world final in Germany, having the chance to present his or her proposal at a conference that will bring together global leaders from various areas, on 8 and 9 November.

The Brazilian competitions are organised by DWIH São Paulo and the German Academic Exchange Service DAAD, in partnership with EURAXESS Brazil and other partners.

EURAXESS Brazil will award an extra prize to the winners of the Falling Walls Labs Fortaleza and Belo Horizonte.
Once in Berlin for the Falling Walls Conference, they will have the opportunity to visit a research institute of their choice in any other EU country to discuss partnership and maybe take the next step of their career.


Who may apply?

Outstanding scholars, researchers, scientists, entrepreneurs, young professionals, and innovators, matching the eligibility criteria below:

  • Graduates who have completed their studies less than 10 years ago

  • Masters who have had their title within a maximum of seven years

  • PhDs who have had their title within a maximum of five years

  • Postdoctoral students and university students

Please, note:

  • Select the Lab closest to your location. Travel and accommodation expenses for participation in the stage in Fortaleza should not be covered. In Belo Horizonte, it may occur, based on individual acceptation.

  • If you have already participated in a Falling Walls Lab as a presenter, you are no longer eligible to apply.

  • No ticket purchase is necessary when applying to a Falling Walls Lab.

  • Applications must be filled out in English!

The prize

The Brazilian qualifiers (one for each location) will defend their idea among 100 competitors in the world stage in Berlin on 8 November 2019. If they are among the top three, they will have the opportunity to present their proposal at the Falling Walls Conference - an event that happens the next day, also in the German capital.

In addition to the competition and the conference, the Brazilian winners will also participate in research and entrepreneurship activities in Germany, organized by Research in Germany - an initiative of the Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) to promote the German institutions of teaching and research in the world.

The two winners of Falling Walls Labs Brazil will also be awared the EURAXESS Prize 2019: a unique opportunity to visit a research lab or university of their choice anywhere in the European Union !
